Grounding means returning to the healing power of nature. – Hyla Cass, MD
What is Earthing? (a.k.a Grounding)
Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to contact with the earth’s surface electrons by 1) walking barefoot outside or 2) by sitting, working or sleeping indoors connected to the energy of the earth by a grounding mechanism. In a nut shell, this natural earth energy transfers from the ground into the body, which can provide numerous health benefits (like better sleep and deeper relaxation). Both practices are supportive to optimal health, especially if you use your cell phone and/or lab top a lot or just have a lot of nervous energy, like anxiety.
The Science Behind Earthing
According to science, the earth’s surface contains free flowing elections (or energy) that is extremely beneficial to the human body. In fact, the Native American’s knew of this restorative energy, as they chose to sleep on the ground, as close to Mother Nature as possible. Nowadays, due to a modern lifestyle consisting of rubber and plastic shoes, sedentary lifestyle (a.k.a not getting outside) and urban buildings, we rarely connect to the earth and its powerful flow of energy. However, by simply walking barefoot, this unlocks many health benefits that contribute to the reduction of stress, better sleep, as well as the reversal of disease. The perfect example of this is when we spend a day at the beach! One always leaves the ocean feeling more restored after having toes in the sand. Basically, when the human body is in touch with the earth, it literally plugs into healing potential.

Earthing from the Comfort of Your Home
If you’d like to tap into the restorative energy of the earth while working or sleeping indoors, modern technology has made this possible. In fact, there are even grounding sheets, pillow cases and mats that you can use when you’re at home. I have been using a grounding pillow case for some months now (getting a formidable opinion) and I can’t believe how much more sound I sleep. I wake up feeling as if I slept 10 hours when I may have only slept 7-8. On top of this, I feel like my sleep has been deeper and I don’t wake up as many times during the middle of the night. Moreover, if I miss a night sleeping with my grounding pillow case, either because it’s in the wash or I’m away from home, I can definitely tell the difference in my sleep quality.
